Columbus man apprehended after high-speed stop on U.S. 33

A Columbus man is facing charges following an escalating traffic stop on U.S. 33 Monday evening.

The Bellefontaine Police Department reported that the incident began around 5:40 p.m., near Township Road 55.

An officer observed a white Ford Bronco speeding westbound at 93 mph in a 70 mph zone.

Officers tried a traffic stop just west of US 68, but the motorist did not immediately stop.

Instead, the truck slowed on a bridge and continued westbound for over a mile.

Because of the initial stop location and the driver’s actions, officers performed a felony stop.

The driver, Arad Cohen, 22, of Columbus, was arrested without incident.

A passenger, Aviv Bukobza, 22, of Columbus, was also detained during the halt.

According to authorities, both individuals arrived in the United States from Israel and did not have legal US driver’s licenses.

The automobile was identified as a Columbus-area rental.

Deputies also found that the passenger was not in breach of any court-ordered conditions.

Cohen was arrested, charged with failure to comply with a valid order, and sent to the Logan County Jail.

Both males were screened by ICE and cleared.

The vehicle was towed from the site, and Bukobza was taken to the Bellefontaine Police Department to wait for a ride.
