Multiple fentanyl overdose victims discovered dead in Newberg

Law enforcement officials are investigating three apparent overdose victims found dead in Newberg.

The victims have been identified as Timothy Dean Crisman, 28, of McMinnville; Roberto Refugio Hernandez, 35, of Newberg; and Virginia Ann Rarick, 56, of Newberg. All were pronounced deceased on the scene.

Yamhill Communications Agency received a 911 call at 4:19 p.m. on April 20 reporting the casualties in the 22000 block of NE Dopp Road.

The Gaston Rural Fire District and deputies from the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office went to the incident. Evidence suggested that all three individuals had been exposed to suspected fentanyl.

Investigators from YCSO’s Street Crimes & Narcotics squad and Special Investigations Unit were dispatched to help with the scene and ongoing investigation.

“Drug overdoses remain one of the most serious public safety hazards in Yamhill County,” Yamhill County Sheriff Sam Elliott stated in a press release.

The sheriff’s office advises residents to take prompt action if they fear someone is overdosing:

  • Call 911 right away.
  • Look for signs such as slowed or stopped breathing, unresponsiveness, or pale, clammy skin.
  • Keep naloxone (Narcan) accessible as it can reverse an opioid overdoes and is widely available.
  • Encourage those struggling with addiction to seek help. Local treatment and support services are available.
