CHP seizes $600,000 in stolen Home Depot tools from SoCal swap meet

California Highway Patrol investigators have dismantled a high-value theft ring that turned stolen construction tools into a profitable swap meet business.

The Southern Division’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force successfully identified two individuals in a methodical “fencing” operation that targeted Home Depot locations throughout Southern California.

According to officials, instead of stealing the products directly, these men served as intermediaries, purchasing stolen inventory and reselling it at a Los Angeles County swap meet.

A raid on the defendants’ residence today yielded more than $600,000 in recovered merchandise.

The specific Home Depot locations targeted have not been disclosed, and officials have yet to identify the individual shoplifters who provided the suspects with the stolen tools.

The identities of the two arrested individuals are still being concealed, awaiting further investigation.

While the principal resale hub has been closed, the CHP states that the “investigation is ongoing” as they seek to find further linkages in the organized crime chain.

The found tools will most likely be processed as evidence before being routed through formal channels for repatriation or disposal.
