1 dead and 1 seriously injured after accident on I-75 in Ocala

A 59-year-old man died and another was critically injured in a collision on Interstate 75 in Ocala on Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, May 6, at around 10:35 a.m., a fatal collision occurred near mile marker 356 on I-75 in Marion County, just two miles north of U.S. Highway 27.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, the two males were driving a pickup truck northbound on I-75 in the left lane when they made an “improper lane change” into the center lane, colliding with a semi-truck moving northbound.

After the turn, the pickup truck’s right rear connected with the semi-truck’s left front, forcing it to rotate and cross the path of another semi-truck in the far right lane.

The second semi-truck pushed the pickup truck onto the right shoulder, where both vehicles eventually came to a stop.

The 59-year-old guy in the pickup truck, from Monroe, Georgia, was not wearing his seatbelt during the collision and was ejected from the car as a result. He was pronounced dead at the spot.

The other occupant of the vehicle, a 38-year-old Monroe male, suffered critical injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital.

The semi-truck drivers were not injured in the crash, according to the FHP report.

Authorities have yet to determine which of the people drove the pickup truck at the time of the accident. There have been no more facts revealed regarding the disaster.
