Mexican national sentenced to prison in Missouri meth trafficking case

A Mexican national was sentenced in federal court for possessing over 56 pounds of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.

According to federal court documents, Pedro Alberto Quiroz Ayala, 22, was sentenced to 11 years in prison without the possibility of release by U.S. District Judge Roseann A. Ketchmark.

The case started from a traffic check by a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer on Interstate 29 near the Northwest 112th Street exit in Kansas City on September 3, 2024.

Authorities stated that Ayala was driving a gray 2011 Acura MDX without a valid driver’s license. A female juvenile sat in the front passenger seat, with other adults occupying the vehicle’s rear seats.

During the search of the SUV, the trooper uncovered a big duffle bag in the third row sitting area that contained approximately 55.6 pounds of methamphetamine. Investigators also discovered an extra grocery bag with about one pound of methamphetamine on the floorboard near where the juvenile passenger was seated.

Law officials also retrieved a loaded weapon from the driver’s-side door bag.

Court filings claim that Ayala fled on foot when the vehicle’s passengers departed during the search. Authorities initiated a manhunt and arrested him shortly afterward.

According to investigators, Ayala later confirmed that he traveled to Omaha, Nebraska, to acquire the narcotics and anticipated to be paid around $2,000 for his assistance in transporting them.
