A Central Florida man was apprehended after screams were heard coming from the back of a van.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested the Lake County man after receiving a 911 call reporting hearing screaming from the back of a van.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Emergency Communications Center got the call at approximately 6:41 a.m. The caller gave a tag number for a white Ford van going on US 27 around Sand Mine Road in the Davenport area.
A PCSO deputy spotted the van near a fire station at 50945 US 27, where a man was standing outside and a woman was screaming from inside.
The individual was identified as Clermont resident David Benjamin Ritchie, 44.
Inside of the vehicle was a female adult relative of Ritchie’s.
According to local police enforcement, the victim informed the deputy that she happily spent the night in Ritchie’s vehicle, but when she awoke, he refused to drive her home or let her out, and he also threatened to give her a black eye.
David Ritchie was taken into arrest and transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center, where he was charged with kidnapping and assault.
According to the PCSO, Ritchie also had active arrest warrants from Lake County for Battery by Strangulation, Aggravated Battery on a Pregnant Woman, and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
