Indianapolis Dollar General manager charged after allegedly stealing deposit worth Ovrer $3K

A former Dollar General manager is accused of stealing a $3,068 deposit from the store he worked at on Indianapolis’ northeast side.

According to court documents, a Dollar General regional asset protection manager reported Joshua Lipscomp after the deposit pouch was stolen from a car at the store located in the 5400 block of Emerson Way, near East 56th Street and Binford Boulevard.

According to the protection manager, the deposit was scheduled for April 24, 2026, but Lipscomb stole it on April 25, 2026. The protection manager stated that Lipscomb signed the deposit in someone else’s name and walked away with it.

At 8:38 p.m., surveillance cameras captured Lipscomb entering a safe behind the counter. Lipscomb is seen getting a yellow bag and putting goods from the safe into it. He is then seen accompanying a woman into the office, carrying the bag.

According to court filings, the detective assigned to the case stated that security video captured at 8:41 p.m. shows Lipscomb leaving the business with the yellow bag. According to the detective, security video from 8:46 p.m. shows Lipscomb again outside entering the store without the yellow bag.

The protection manager believes Lipscomb signed the deposit after writing the name of the woman he was with. The protection manager also sent the deposit record sheet to the detective and indicated that she writes numbers differently than Lipscomb.

The protection manager told police that on May 12, she called Lipscomb in for an interview about the missing deposit. He apparently admitted to her in a letter that he had taken it. He was fired following the meeting.

The letter, which is included in the court records, states, “I’m not sure when or why I took a deposit to drop off. I had to have forgotten I had it… I must have left it in the car after leaving work.”

Lipscomb faces an arrest warrant. He is charged with a Level 6 felony theft of property valued between $750 and $50,000.
