Man accused of driving drunk and falling asleep in middle of Phoenix freeway

A man is accused of driving drunk and falling asleep in the middle of east Phoenix’s Interstate 10.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety reports that on May 25, troopers received many calls regarding an car stopped on I-10 between 32nd and 40th streets.

Troopers arrived and discovered the driver asleep behind the wheel, with the car still in drive. Troopers stopped traffic, boxed in the automobile, awoke the driver, and arrested him.

According to DPS, troopers discovered an open container of alcohol in the center console and additional alcohol on the passenger-side floorboard. They also said that the man had bloodshot, watery eyes and smelled of alcohol.

The individual cooperated to field sobriety tests, which troopers said revealed he was inebriated.

A records check revealed that the man’s driver’s license had been suspended due to a DUI earlier this year.

The individual was apprehended and booked into jail. He has not been publicly identified.
