National Donut Day, a beloved pseudo-holiday honoring the iconic breakfast pastry, falls annually on the first Friday in June. The Salvation Army established it in 1938 to pay tribute to the organization’s Donut Lassies — women who traveled to France during World War I to serve donuts and other snacks to soldiers, according to USA TODAY.
Thanks to the Donut Lassies, everyone can score free and discounted donuts this week (while supplies last) at national chains and local bakeries, including Dunkin’ Donuts, Krispy Kreme, Busken Bakery, Servatii Pastry Shop and more.

Krispy Kreme is offering a dozen glazed donuts for $2 with the purchase of a dozen donuts at participating locations. The chain is also giving guests a free donut of their choice Friday with no purchase necessary, according to a news release.

Rewards members can get a classic glazed donut for just 50 cents at participating 7-Eleven, Speedway and Stripes locations June 5, per a press release.
Busken Bakery
Busken Bakery is offering National Donut Day deals all week long. Through June 6, customers can get $10 glazed dozens. The chain is also offering three kettles for $5 from June 3-4 and free glazed or sprinkle donuts June 5.
