Northwest Freeway Worker Arrested In Alleged $52,000 Refund Scam

An alleged refund scam at a business on the Northwest Freeway resulted in an arrest Tuesday morning, after deputies say 27-year-old employee April Timberlake attempted to obtain approximately $52,000 in phony refunds for herself. Deputies from Harris County Precinct 4 responded to the 27100 block of the freeway about that time and arrested Timberlake. Investigators say they also discovered an active warrant out of Navarro County during the call.

According to a Facebook post by Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4, deputies went to a suspected theft in the 27100 block of the Northwest Freeway at 8:08 a.m. Tuesday and identified Timberlake as the suspect. The report claims that she was apprehended at the scene and put into the Harris County Jail. Her birth date is July 24, 1998. In the essay, Herman stated that “employee theft is a serious breach of trust that can have a significant financial impact on businesses.”

According to Click2Houston, Timberlake was charged with theft after allegedly attempting to issue fake refunds totaling approximately $52,000. According to the publication, deputies discovered an outstanding Navarro County warrant and jailed her for that as well. Bond in the case was set at $10,000 by the 184th District Court. According to the constable’s office, the investigation is ongoing.

In recent weeks, Precinct 4 has been dealing with a high volume of theft and fraud incidents along the same road. This includes a May mail-theft operation along the Northwest Freeway, which resulted in many arrests and the recovery of hundreds of pieces of mail. The mail-theft sweep described how deputies worked with postal inspectors during the raid.

Texas Penal Code §31.03 states that theft of property worth $30,000 or more but less than $150,000 is considered a third-degree felony. Prosecutors will decide on any final charges after investigators have finished studying records and other evidence in the case.
