Pittsburgh man sentenced to over 4 years in prison for role in rental car scheme

A Pittsburgh man has been sentenced to prison for taking part in a rental car scheme, according to officials.

William Knight, 32, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison and three years of supervised release on Wednesday, according to the Department of Justice.

He was previously found guilty of breaching federal identity theft laws.

Prosecutors claim that between October 2022 and February 2023, Knight and others purchased people’s identification information and credit card numbers on the dark web and used them to rent vehicles.

The plot also involved a rental car company employee, according to the DOJ.

The conspirators allegedly rented out the vehicles to others, many of whom were involved in drug trafficking and other activities.
