A Lakeland woman was taken into custody for DUI after being stopped in Clermont on her way back to an Airbnb in Kissimmee.
An officer saw 34-year-old Keyshell Da-Shay Hayes speeding in a silver SUV on U.S. Highway 27 around 12:50 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Clermont Police Department. Radar confirmed she was doing 83 mph in a 55 mph zone, resulting in a traffic stop on Hartwood Marsh Road.
The officer approached the vehicle and spoke with Hayes and the passenger. When asked for her license, Hayes began handing over the passenger’s identification. She kept looking for her own, asking the passenger where it was, and eventually found it, according to the report.
She then informed them that they were vacationing at an Airbnb. She went to seek her insurance at the officer’s request, indicating she was anxious about it. According to the report, the officer noticed Hayes’ eyes were blurry and smelled alcohol on her breath while she spoke.
When the officer asked where the Airbnb was, the passenger provided him an address on Tropical Palms Circle in Kissimmee. When asked why they were heading east while the Airbnb was south, they said they had no idea where they were going. According to the study, they were lost and did not originate in the area.
Hayes then agreed to engage in field sobriety exercises at Circle K, 4311 S U.S. Hwy. 27. She expressed her fear and stated that she needed to speak with her children first. She became quite upset during the exercises, crying when she lost her balance and defied orders, according to the report.
Her performance prompted the officer to believe she was under the influence and arrest her. She asked to call her father several times and remained distraught. She also asked numerous questions, which the law police had to repeat. She later gave breath samples of 0.243 g/210 L and 0.250 g/210 L, according to the report.
In addition, the report stated that a well-being check was sent to Airbnb. The children present indicated that they were well and had been alone for hours.
Hayes was charged with DUI and brought into the Lake County Jail. She was released after paying a $1,000 bond.
