BERLIN — Two freight trains collided on a railway bridge in Germany overnight, officials said Saturday, sending two wagons plunging off the bridge and onto the street below. The crash killed one person.

The German news agency dpa did not identify the victim of the crash, which happened in the city of Munich, and officials had not yet determined what caused the collision.

According to dpa, the wagons fell about 5 meters (16 feet) from the bridge. Munich police closed the street beneath the bridge and urged drivers to steer clear of the area while crews carried out recovery and clearing operations.

Dpa reported that the derailed wagons were not carrying any cargo, posing no threat to public safety.

Officials reported no other injuries in the crash.
