A woman has been arrested after deputies say she left her 4-year-old daughter unsupervised in a parked car while shopping at Costco in northwest Harris County.
According to Harris County Precinct 4, officers rushed to the Costco in the 26900 block of Northwest Freeway on Sunday afternoon after receiving reports of a young child alone inside a vehicle.
When deputies arrived, they discovered a 4-year-old child awake and responsive inside the non-running vehicle.
Emergency medical personnel checked the infant on the scene and found she did not require hospitalization.
Authorities stated that the child was later released to another guardian.
The child’s mother was arrested without incident and charged with child abandonment, according to authorities.
The investigation is underway.
Precinct 4 officials cautioned parents and caregivers that temperatures inside parked vehicles can quickly rise to deadly levels, even with the windows cracked open.
