Truck Driver Apprehended for Road Rage Attack with Hammer in Central Florida

A truck driver was apprehended for a road rage attack with a hammer in Central Florida.

The armed road rage incident in Winter Haven led to the arrest of the Lakeland man.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office rushed deputies to the intersection of Helena Road and Cypress Gardens Boulevard when the attack occurred.

According to local law enforcement, when deputies arrived, they saw a man bleeding from the nose. The other person had already left the scene.

According to victim and witness accounts, the victim was heading along Cypress Gardens Road when he was cut off by two trucks hauling rocks. After passing the trucks, the victim entered a turn lane for Helena Road.

According to PCSO, while parked at a signal, one of the trucks pulled in front of the victim’s vehicle, preventing it from moving.

A verbal disagreement ensued, and one of the truck drivers opened the victim’s car door and struck him. According to police, the defendant then returned to his truck, took a hammer, and repeatedly struck the victim with it.

The defendant allegedly grabbed the victim by the hair, threw him to the ground, and attacked him again.

“The suspect furiously attacked another driver; it was violent and brutal and left the victim bloodied, with a broken nose,” Sheriff Grady Judd said. “Making the situation worse was that it all happened in front of the victim’s children who were in the vehicle with him.”

Detectives contacted the trucks’ registered owner, who identified the suspect as 39-year-old Jose Antonio Rosa Negron of Lakeland.

Rosa Negron was arrested and put into the Sheriff’s Processing Center on charges of burglary with battery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and false imprisonment of a person (four counts).
