Mississippi man taken into custody after brother in-law found shot dead on lawnmower

One man is in custody after his brother-in-law was discovered dead on a lawnmower outside his home on Friday.

William Hill, 67, was taken into custody after turning himself in to authorities on Friday. Hill has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his brother-in-law, Vernon Tew, aged 69.

Officials said Tew was shot at least once in the abdomen near his home while riding a lawnmower. The shooting apparently took place shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

Officials believe the shooting was the result of a family estate dispute.

Judge Travis Haynes refused Hill’s bond request in Jones County Justice Court on Sunday.
