Armed man taken into custody after 10-hour standoff at Orange County apartment complex, deputies say

A heavy law presence appeared along Lee Road in Orange County on Tuesday evening after a man allegedly threatened his brother with a knife, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said they arrived at the Sommerset Apartments on Lee Road at 3:15 p.m., when a man in his 50s reported that his brother, also in his 50s, had threatened him with a knife.

After hearing about the response, News 6 Community Correspondent Troy Campbell went to the area just after 7 p.m. at 1051 Lee Road.

By 8 p.m., the majority of the site had been removed, although numerous patrol units and caution tape remained.

Campbell reported that law enforcement looked to have busted a window and tossed a smoke bomb inside. However, no one emerged.

As night fell, SWAT moved in, deploying a tactical robot and an armored truck, as well as making repeated loudspeaker calls for Gregory Jackson to come out of the apartment. Jackson did not comply.

Workers were on location early Wednesday morning, cleaning up and boarding up the window that deputies had broken during the breach. The apartment will likely require repairs.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has not yet disclosed information about Jackson’s charges or previous law enforcement history. Additional information is likely to be revealed.
