Bartow Pair Taken Into Custody After Woman Shot In Toe

A late-night hospital visit over a gunshot to the toe ended in two Bartow residents being handcuffed after police revealed a complicated story involving firearms, kids, and alleged falsehoods inside a home on 80-Foot Road.

Madison Thomas, 21, and Cazar Caraker, 22, were detained when a woman arrived at Bartow Regional Medical Centre with a gunshot wound to the toe of her right foot, according to authorities. Detectives responded on Monday and went to a Bartow home, where they say the pieces of the case began to come together. Both accused now face several criminal accusations.

The arrests were announced in a post by Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, who stated that detectives were called after the woman arrived at the hospital with the toe injury. The injured woman was identified as Madison Thomas by the sheriff, and investigators later visited the home linked to the shooting.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Thomas originally provided incorrect information about how and where the shooting occurred before attempting to modify data on her cellphone. The release alleges she grabbed a detective’s wrist when he went to confiscate the phone.

Deputies claim Thomas accidentally shot her own toe and was arrested on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer (F3), resisting with violence (F3), resisting without violence (M1), and providing false information during a felony investigation.

According to the sheriff’s office, Caraker attempted to hide the couple’s two youngest children at a neighbour’s home and instructed Thomas to lie since he was not permitted to possess a firearm on the property. According to the agency, he was arrested on several charges, including tampering with a witness (F1), tampering with physical evidence (F3), corruption by threat (F3), possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (F2), probation violation (F1), and providing false information during a felony investigation (M1).

Hoodline researched public registration listings and found an entry for Cazar Lee Caraker that states a prior conviction for lewd or lascivious battery, a Polk County docket number, and identifies him as a registered sexual offender. The registry entry is hosted by OffenderRadar. Court records are the definitive source for conviction and sentencing data.
