Fugitive apprehended after crash on Phoenix freeway

A fugitive was apprehended after a crash on the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway near 24th Street in Phoenix on Thursday afternoon.

It happened shortly after 3 p.m. on the westbound side, near 24th Street.

The FBI’s Phoenix Safe Trails Task Force apprehended a man in the area after attempting to pull him over, officials said.

The man was wanted on warrants from Maricopa County and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. His name has not been released.

According to officials, he did not stop when agents attempted to stop his car. Troopers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety and Mesa police worked to resolve the issue.

Aerial video captured skid marks from a red four-door sedan on the off-ramp. The car came to a stop facing the incorrect direction, between the right westbound lane and the off-ramp.

The individual was booked into Maricopa County Jail on a failure-to-yield charge. There were no injuries recorded.

The right lane and off-ramp were closed, however they have since reopened.
