Phoenix man apprehended after 121 mph chase on US 60, DPS says

A Phoenix man is accused of leading Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers on a high-speed chase through Tempe and Mesa while under the influence of alcohol.

According to the agency, on June 22, a trooper attempted to stop 54-year-old Edward Zamora for driving 110 mph on U.S. 60 in Tempe. According to DPS, he continued to drive at speeds of 121 mph, nearly colliding with other vehicles before crashing in Mesa.

The trooper said Zamora smelled like alcohol and that an open container was discovered in his car.

He was detained on charges including unlawful escape from a law enforcement vehicle, endangerment and driving under the influence, reckless driving, and criminal speeding.

The judge placed the bond at $10,000.
