An Oak Lawn man was discovered with a loaded gun, thousands of dollars in cash and drugs inside his car during a traffic stop earlier this month on Chicago’s Far South Side.
According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Abdelrahman Yasean, 21, is charged with armed violence and other narcotics counts as a result of the traffic stop.
Around 3:30 p.m. on June 18, investigators from the Sheriff’s Police Organized Crime Division stopped a Honda Accord in the 8700 block of S. Parnell Avenue in Auburn Gresham because the driver and two passengers were reportedly not wearing seat belts.
As police approached the automobile, they noticed “a strong odor of burnt cannabis” and what seemed to be a cannabis cigar.
Police requested everyone in the car to come out so that they could search for drugs. The sheriff’s office reported finding a loaded gun, another magazine, two bars of psilocybin mushrooms, cannabis, and around $10,000 in cash.
Investigators claimed the items belonged to Yasean, who was then taken into prison.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office has approved the charges against him. Yasean was ordered to be kept at the Cook County Jail.
