A 13-year-old girl narrowly escaped an attempted kidnapping on Chicago’s Northwest Side Tuesday morning, according to police.
The incident took place between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m. in the 4100 block of North Central Avenue in the Portage Park area.
According to Chicago police, the 13-year-old girl was traveling southeast through Portage Park from Berteau Avenue and Central Avenue when she observed a man walking northeast through the park with a gray or black dog.
According to police, the male caught the girl’s attention and sought to attract her.
The girl hastily entered a nearby building, leading the male to escape the scene. She then informed park officials of what had happened.
Police characterized the suspect as a white male between the ages of 50 and 60, standing around 5 feet, 8 inches tall.
He has a gray beard and was last seen in a large tan or brown T-shirt and long shorts. He was joined by a black or gray dog.
