Police: Missing North Texas Woman Discovered Dead In Creek

A 68-year-old Sherman woman who was reported missing on Monday was discovered dead 24 hours later in a creek, authorities said.

According to the Sherman Police Department, officers were dispatched to a facility in the 800 block of West Center Street at 9:30 p.m. Monday after receiving word that Lisa Windland had gone missing.

According to police, the first information provided to officers suggested that Windland did not have a cognitive disability or any other condition that would qualify her as an endangered missing person. Despite this, Sherman police claimed they conducted a thorough search for her throughout the night and into Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, Sherman Police Department said police acquired further evidence that concluded Windland fulfilled the criteria for an endangered missing person. That’s when the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) issued a Silver Alert.

Officers continued to follow leads throughout the day and requested assistance from Texas Search and Rescue (TEXSAR) as the search spread around the city, according to the agency. According to Sherman Police Department, Windland was last spotted around Hwy 75 and Center Street.

TEXSAR members discovered Windland’s body in a creek near South Highway 75 at 8:47 p.m., according to authorities.We regret to inform you that Ms. Windland has been found dead. “We extend our condolences to her family,” Sherman Police Department said in a statement. “We also want to thank TEXSAR for their assistance in this search, as well as the members of our community who shared information through social media.”

Authorities have not disclosed any other information about Windland’s death.
