Milford police apprehended a man who reportedly crashed with a Massachusetts State Police officer while fleeing a traffic stop last week.
Joseph Prior, 29, of Milford, was stopped by state police last Thursday shortly after 8 a.m.
“During the stop, the operator […] put the vehicle in reverse, nearly striking the trooper before colliding with the MSP cruiser before fleeing the scene,” Milford police stated in a statement. “Attempts to find the suspect or car were unsuccessful. A warrant was then issued for Prior’s arrest.
Officers found Prior on foot in Milford on Friday and arrested him after the suspect flew briefly, according to police.
He was arrested and imprisoned for $10,000 bail.
“The Massachusetts State Police showed great restraint in their initial motor vehicle stop interaction with Joseph Prior,” Milford Chief of Police Robert Tusino stated. “I applaud them for their training and professionalism in attempting to de-escalate without using lethal force. This is an example of time-tested police training and techniques.”
Prior was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, driving with a suspended license, failing to stop for police, negligent driving, unsafe driving, and incorrect driving, all of which stemmed from the existing warrant. He was also accused with resisting arrest.
