A night of violence in Chicago left communities terrified Sunday morning, with three people killed and at least 14 more injured in a series of shootings throughout the city.
The first fatal shooting occurred in the Roseland area, where police say a gunman opened fire on a crowd gathered outside just before 1 a.m. on the 10400 block of South Michigan Avenue.
A twenty-year-old woman was shot but is likely to survive. A 24-year-old lady was brought to the University of Chicago Medical Center and ultimately died.
Just eight minutes later, police rushed to another shooting in the Hermosa area on the city’s Northwest Side.
According to police, a verbal altercation inside a home in the 2000 block of North Pulaski Road escalated when one of the people pulled out a pistol. A 22-year-old guy was shot in the finger while attempting to disarm the perpetrator, who fled before police arrived.
Five minutes later, on the West Side, a 30-year-old man standing outside in the 500 block of North Leclaire Avenue was shot in his leg. He was transferred to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
Three minutes later, officers discovered a 61-year-old male with a gunshot wound in the back on the 5600 block of South Racine Avenue in the Englewood area. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Around 40 minutes later, another shooting was reported in the 3400 block of West Cermak Road.
According to police, a 22-year-old male was sitting in his car when a white Jeep approached and someone inside started fire. He was shot in the body and rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
Six persons were shot shortly after 2 a.m. while attending a block party in Humboldt Park.
Police said a group of people were outside in the 900 block of North Central Park Avenue when an unidentified gunman opened fire, killing several people.
According to authorities, a 35-year-old guy and a 36-year-old man were both sent to a local hospital in critical condition after being shot many times. Four other victims had injuries that were not life-threatening and were listed in good condition.
Then, shortly after 3 a.m., another fatal gunshot was recorded on the Far South Side.
Police said a man of unknown age and a 32-year-old woman were standing outside in the 8900 block of South Escanaba Avenue when they heard gunshots and discovered they had been shot.
The victim was shot in the neck and rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. The woman was shot in the chest and transported herself to a nearby hospital, where she was reported in good condition.
The Chicago police are still examining each occurrence. No information about arrests has been supplied.
