A man known locally as “Big Baby” was arrested this week after Miami-Dade deputies claim he drew a gun on, assaulted, and stabbed a 72-year-old panhandler in West Perrine, leaving the victim injured and in the emergency room. According to deputies, the attack occurred on the morning of July 8, and the suspect, 49-year-old Thomas Isaac Dudley, allegedly stole approximately $130 before fleeing. According to investigators, the victim, who uses a urostomy bag, feels he was targeted because he cannot protect himself.
According to an MDSO arrest report obtained by Local10, Dudley came out of his automobile at the junction of Southwest 102nd Avenue and 174th Terrace and pointed a revolver at the elderly man. According to the account, he yelled, “Give me the money.” Where’s the money, boy?” before allegedly snatching a galvanized metal fence post or pipe, striking and stabbing the man several times as the car sped away. Authorities said they found a bloodstained pipe at the site. The victim later identified Dudley in a confirmation photo, and records show that he was arrested on July 23 at a Richmond Heights location and charged with armed robbery and aggravated violence on a person 65 or older.
Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center is Miami-Dade County’s major booking and pretrial detention facility, according to the county. Dudley was being held without bond as of Friday afternoon, according to available documents and the arrest report.
According to state records, Dudley served nearly 15 years in jail for a Brevard County robbery before being released in April after a Miami-Dade grand theft conviction, as reported by Local10. Deputies say he goes by numerous other street names, including “Pinky Baby” and “Teddy Bear,” and was described as “combative” when authorities arrested him.
Dudley faces state charges of armed robbery and aggravated violence on a person 65 or older, which will be handled in county court. A judge will assess his detention circumstances, and prosecutors will decide on formal charges and arraignment dates as the inquiry progresses.
