A Central Florida woman was taken into custody on many charges of animal cruelty and neglect.
A Davenport woman was detained during a traffic stop and then charged with ten charges of animal cruelty and neglect after a family member discovered five severely neglected dogs and one deceased dog in her yard.
Caroline Kanyamauri, 33, was recently detained by the Davenport Police Department and charged with five traffic infractions. While being taken into custody, Kanyamauri asked DPD officers whether she may call her sister to check on her dogs because she would be in jail.
When the sister arrived at Kanyamauri’s house the next day, she informed law enforcement about the conditions in which she discovered the animals.
Deputies discovered a black wire cage in the backyard, which contained the decomposing remains of a deceased dog, as well as four live puppies on a feces-covered porch. There was also an adult male dog inside the house, with apparent ribs and bone structure. The five living canines were emaciated and parasite-infested. Polk County Animal Control conducted a thorough medical examination on each of the animals.
PCSO Animal Cruelty Investigators charged Kanyamauri with five counts of animal cruelty, five counts of animal neglect, and one case of unauthorized disposal of a dead animal.
“We are grateful to this suspect’s family member for contacting law enforcement when she encountered what were clearly severely neglected and malnourished pets, in time for us to rescue these puppies and dog and return them to health,” stated Grady Judd, Polk County Sheriff. “It is our hope that they go to loving homes as soon as they are rehabilitated, and that Ms. Kanyamauri is not allowed to own animals again.”
