5 people injured in hit-and-run crash after SUV hits pole on E. 5th Ave.

Five people are in the hospital after a hit-skip crash on the Northeast side of Columbus.

According to police, an adult drove a beige GMC Acadia west on E. 5th Ave., passing Sterling Ave. in the left lane. At the same time, a black Dodge Charger with tinted windows was driving west on E. 5th Ave. in the right lane.

The Charger struck the Acadia’s back right side, causing the vehicle to lose control and collide with a telephone pole on the south side of the street. The Charger then drove off.

Two individuals were sent to the hospital in stable condition. Three children were brought to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in stable condition, although one of them had critical injuries.

The Accident Investigation Unit replied by opening an investigation that is still underway.
