Three parents in Georgia face child‑cruelty charges after allegedly confining their 15 children, ages one to 17, to a two‑bedroom apartment described as “deplorable,” equipped with only nine beds, insufficient food, and no toilet paper.
Ashley Jackson, 40, Derrick Jackson, 41, and Briana Reynolds, 36, were arrested Thursday when police discovered the children living under those conditions at the Laurel Hills Preserve apartment complex off Bells Ferry Road in Marietta, according to local NBC affiliate WXIA.
All three adults now confront first‑ and second‑degree cruelty‑to‑children charges, in addition to marijuana‑possession allegations. Authorities assert that the Marietta residence housed 18 individuals,the three adults and their 15 children,each of whom claimed to be a biological parent.
Arrest warrants obtained by WXIA reveal that the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) sought police assistance while conducting a welfare check after receiving reports of two youths residing at the address.
Police assert that the dwelling lacked basic necessities, including food. Officers discovered a mold‑covered blanket hanging in one bedroom and observed an absence of recent toilet‑paper supplies.
After executing a search warrant, officers found the children unattended. The three adults arrived three hours later and were taken into custody, police said.
Derrick Jackson also faces an additional charge after marijuana was allegedly found in his system upon arrival at the county correctional facility, WXIA reports.
All three adults remain detained without bond.
