The man who confessed to brutally killing a woman and her dog in a Montana parking lot before fleeing with the victim’s body to Idaho Falls has been condemned to spend the rest of his life in prison.

On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, Judge Rienne H. McElyea sentenced Christopher Brandon Foiles of Spokane to 60 years in state prison without the possibility of parole for premeditated homicide.

On December 14, 2023, prosecutors allege that Foiles killed 34-year-old Megan Stedman and her dog in their RV while parked at a Walmart in Bozeman, Montana. Foiles fled the state and was apprehended a month later by law police in Idaho Falls on January 12, 2024, with his victim’s remains remaining in the RV.

Court filings show that when the motorhome was located in the city, IFPD investigators set up surveillance on it and worked with Montana officials to get a search warrant.

Eventually, Foiles exited the RV, and a detective approached him. Foiles introduced himself to the officer as “Chris Foiles.” “I killed my girlfriend, and she is in the RV.” Officers discovered Stedman’s body in the back of the RV.

Folies was initially accused in Idaho of purposeful killing and pled not guilty before being extradited to Montana. Folies was charged with premeditated homicide, aggravated animal cruelty, and identity theft after being taken into jail by the Treasure State.

Foiles initially pleaded not guilty before changing his plea to guilty in October.

Stedman’s 16-year-old daughter, Jasmine Nataba, told our partners at KBZK in Bozeman that it was the closure they deserved and that her mother was and continues to be her hero.
