A hit-and-run driver was apprehended after fleeing the scene of an accident in The Villages.

According to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, a motorist was driving on Buena Vista Boulevard at County Road 466A around 2 p.m. Sunday when she was rear-ended by another vehicle. Both drivers initially stated that they would pull over; however, the driver of the car involved in the rear-end incident, a blue 2005 Florida F-150 pickup, fled the scene. The driver of the vehicle that was struck was able to photograph the F-150 as it drove away, obtaining an image of the license plate.

On County Road 108 near U.S. 301, someone noticed the F-150 and pulled it over. Stephanie Nicole Del Castillo, 36, of Ocala, was the driver. A search of her driver’s license revealed that it had been suspended in 2023 for failure to pay traffic charges.

Del Castillo was charged with felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor driving with a suspended license. She was also penalized for following too closely. She was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center and released after paying a $5,500 bond.
