2 People Dead After Carbon Monoxide Poisoning In Indiana

A Fulton County couple died from carbon monoxide poisoning in their home, according to the county coroner.

According to the Fulton County Coroner’s Office, Maurice Lewis and Barbara Sue Lewis were discovered deceased on Tuesday by a family member. The coroner stated that the couple had been dead for only a few hours when they were discovered.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and very deadly gas created by fuel-burning appliances often found in homes, such as furnaces, fireplaces, and space heaters. The coroner said she believed the couple did not have a carbon monoxide detector in their house.

The coroner described Maurice and Barbara Sue Lewis as “very sweet people” and said their deaths had a significant impact on the community. She stated that she has heard that residents have begun to purchase carbon monoxide monitors as a result of the occurrence, and she hopes that increased awareness will help prevent similar deaths.

The coroner’s office said these are the first carbon monoxide-related deaths in Fulton County in several years.
