Police have arrested an 18-year-old man suspected of making social media threats against Center Grove High School.
Adrian Abundio-Valente, 18, was arrested early Friday morning after officers from Marion and Johnson counties served a warrant at a home on Breen Court. That is near East 36th Street and North Post Road in Indianapolis.
“Law enforcement officers involved in this investigation worked throughout the night to locate and arrest an individual who posted threatening comments on a social media platform directed at Center Grove Schools, placing school staff, students, and families in fear,” Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess said in a release.
Threats against Johnson County schools, students, and educators “will not be tolerated,” Burgess added.
“Any individual who believes they can hide behind social media to intimidate or threaten schools will be identified, located, and held accountable. Actions that cause fear, especially among students who are simply trying to receive an education, are unacceptable and criminal.”
Abundio has no ties to Center Grove High School or Center Grove Schools, according to Stacy Conrad, executive director of communications at the Center Grove Community School Corporation.
Conrad announced that the Center Grove Police Department and Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputies would station additional officers around CGHS on Friday.
The school district’s safety strategy dictates that the main campus of the high school will remain closed to visitors.
Abundio was officially charged with criminal intimidation Friday afternoon.
Prosecutors noted some of the comments the 18-year-old made to the school, such as “better have yo school and shut down,” and “I’m walking in tomorrow with an ARP and killing everyone in my sight.”
Prosecutors also asked a $80,000 cash bond due to the gravity of the threat.
