A federal jury found a Columbus man guilty of transporting drugs in secret compartments within a vehicle driving from California to the Polaris Fashion Place.
According to court documents and trial testimony, agents in Albuquerque, New Mexico, told Homeland Security Investigation agents in central Ohio that New Mexico State Police troopers had stopped over a commercial car carrier in May 2024.
One of the vehicles hauled was on its route to Polaris Fashion Place in Delaware County. State police uncovered two secret compartments within the truck, containing a total of 28 kilograms of suspected narcotics. Investigators discovered 21 grams of methamphetamine and seven grams of cocaine among the substances.
Federal and local law enforcement planned a controlled substance delivery in the Polaris parking lot, with “sham narcotics” in place of actual drugs.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio, Terrance Colvin, 39, of Columbus, arrived to get the vehicle and drove it to his apartment in the 801 Polaris complex. Colvin stopped the vehicle in a secluded garage and entered the concealed compartments to transfer the cocaine to a duffel bag.
Colvin was detained by law police and his flat was searched, revealing additional large amounts of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine. Police also confiscated three loaded guns.
Colvin, who has previously been convicted of narcotics and weapons crimes, kidnapping, receiving stolen goods, driving under the influence, obstruction of justice, and disorderly conduct, is forbidden from owning firearms and ammunition.
Colvin was indicted in June 2024, and after a year-long trial, he was found guilty on all six charges, including conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, attempted possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, cocaine, or fentanyl, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Colvin faces a minimum of 15 years in federal prison and potentially to a life sentence. His next court date has yet to be determined.
