Twenty-five people were taken into custody, and significant quantities of illegal drugs and firearms were seized during a coordinated weekend operation in Marion County, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies executed two search warrants and served numerous outstanding warrants in connection with drug trafficking, sale, and possession investigations on Saturday. According to officials, numerous unrelated warrants were served during the operation, and additional suspects were apprehended after being discovered in possession of prohibited narcotics.
As the investigation progressed, deputies seized a variety of illegal drugs in various forms and quantities, including 244.82 grams of methamphetamine, 2.88 grams of cocaine, 2.46 grams of crack cocaine, 1.32 grams of fentanyl, 40 dosage units of methamphetamine/ecstasy, and 60 dosage units of controlled substances. Authorities also indicated that numerous guns had been recovered.
Those detained face a variety of accusations, including criminal possession, trafficking, conspiracy, and sale or transfer of controlled narcotics, with several of the incidents occurring within 1,500 feet of schools, churches, or parks. Some individuals were additionally charged with outstanding warrants and infractions by the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
“This coordinated enforcement effort reflects the ongoing commitment of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and partnering agencies to combat illegal narcotics activity and enhance public safety within the community,” the office stated in a statement.
The Columbia Police Department, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, the Drug Enforcement Administration Hattiesburg Post of Duty, and the Marion County District 2 Constable all provided assistance.
