Miami U.S. Postal Worker Arrested In Alleged Theft Of More Than $1 Million In Treasury Checks

A Miami U.S. Postal Service employee has been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of more than $1 million in U.S. Treasury checks, according to authorities.

Sylvester Green Byrd, 35, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with first-degree grand theft and fraudulent use or possession of personal identity, according to records.

According to the police report, Byrd was arrested following an investigation at the United States Postal Service facility at 2200 Northwest 72nd Avenue, near Miami International Airport.

According to the report, the operation was carried out by several agencies, including the US Postal Service Office of Inspector General, the US Secret Service, and the North Miami Beach Police, in response to reports that a postal employee or employees were unlawfully removing US Treasury checks from circulation.

While there, postal authorities discovered Byrd concealing checks inside his shirt and arrested him, according to the report.
