A former Miami-Dade deputy was apprehended Thursday after reportedly going to Delray Beach to meet what he thought was a 15-year-old for sexual purposes.
Deputies from the Delray Beach Police Department say they were summoned to IPIC Theaters on Thursday night after getting information that a man, later identified as 36-year-old Miami-Dade deputy Christopher Diaz, was attempting to meet a juvenile for sexual purposes. When they arrived, they detained Diaz and took his weapon.
According to the criminal probable cause statement, the victim was working with an organization called “561 Predator Catchers,” and she informed detectives that Diaz ignored repeated warnings about her age and sent sexual communications via dating apps, iMessage, and FaceTime.
When they met in person, the victim said to police that Diaz caressed her chest over her clothing despite her repeated “no.”
The guys running the sting confronted Diaz and videotaped the entire episode.
The former deputy was taken into Palm Beach County Jail on a charge of violence and is being held without bond.
Diaz was working as a deputy at the time, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, but he was fired immediately after his arrest.
