Teen taken into custody 9 months after fatal Chicago shooting

A 16-year-old boy has been taken into custody nine months after a 24-year-old man was shot during an early morning fight on Chicago’s West Side.

According to police, the teen was nabbed last Tuesday in the 5000 block of West Quincy Street in the Austin neighborhood. He was identified as the individual who shot and killed a 24-year-old man on the same block on May 3, 2025.

The shooting occurred about 1 a.m. According to authorities, the 24-year-old was strolling down the sidewalk when the adolescent approached him and an argument broke out.

The teen then allegedly drew a revolver and shot the man in the chest. The man was brought to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died.

The teenager fled the scene, according to authorities. He is now facing one felony accusation of first-degree murder.

It’s unknown what sparked the gunshots.
