A California woman was arrested at Miami International Airport after authorities discovered a big quantity of drugs in her luggage.
Taylor D. Woods, 30, of Compton, was detained Sunday at MIA on a cannabis trafficking charge before boarding a flight to London, according to the arrest report.
According to the report, a US Customs and Border Protection K-9 was sniffing luggage and detected the presence of cocaine in one piece that had been checked by Woods.
According to the complaint, Woods informed officials that she flew from Los Angeles to Miami and packed all of her checked baggage.
Authorities checked her luggage and discovered 30 bricks of packed goods inside, but no clothing or personal items, according to the report.
The parcels included a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana/hashish/THC, totaling 16.45 kilos (36.26 pounds), according to the report.
Woods was detained and placed into a Miami-Dade jail before appearing before a judge. This is the latest in a series of drug trafficking arrests at MIA involving individuals from California.
“Okay, so you’re like now, what, the fifth person we’ve seen in a few weeks, from California going to London, let’s see how much cannabis there was in her checked luggage,” Judge Mindy Glazer said. “I don’t know who is this person getting all of the young people from California to go do this but you’re not the only one, but you are facing serious charges.”
Glazer appointed a public defender for Woods and granted her a $10,000 bond.
“They need to do a public service announcement in California, stop offering to transport large sums of cannabis overseas because you’re gonna get arrested either here or in the destination that you’ve arrived to,” Glazer added.
