A man was detained in Central Florida after allegedly shooting a door-to-door solicitor.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office detained the man after he shot a door-to-door solicitor in his neighborhood.
The HCSO 911 Dispatch Center got a call reporting a shooting on Fluorshire Drive at the Providence Townhomes in Brandon, near Tampa. When deputies arrived, they found a man victim with multiple gunshot wounds to his lower torso. Deputies quickly began providing assistance. The victim was sent to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives discovered that the victim and his female coworker were soliciting telecommunication products and services door-to-door when 38-year-old Reginald McGee got verbally hostile toward her. When McGee physically attacked the victim, he and his coworker began to walk away.
According to local police, during the attack, McGee went into his waistband, pulled out a pistol, and began shooting at the victim. As the victim fled, McGee pursued him, shooting him until he ran out of ammunition.
McGee then returned to his home. When deputies arrived, he exited the house with a pistol and was taken into jail.
McGee was charged with attempted murder in the second degree with a firearm causing great bodily harm, aggravated battery with a firearm causing great bodily harm or death, and discharging a firearm in public or on residential property.
“This was a completely unnecessary escalation that left a man seriously injured simply for doing his job,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “When a disagreement turns into gunfire, that is a choice, and it is a criminal one. Our deputies moved promptly to apprehend this offender, giving people in this community peace of mind and preventing additional harm.”
