A 26-year-old Mississippi man wanted on a felony warrant was taken into custody on April 10 after reportedly attempting to flee from law enforcement and striking a deputy’s vehicle, according to officials.
Deputies from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Oxford Police Department were attempting to locate James Cameron Willard, who was sought in both Lafayette and Panola counties. Officers apprehended Willard in Oxford, at which point he allegedly attempted to flee in a vehicle.
During the attempted escape, Willard collided with a sheriff’s office car, according to investigators.
Willard and another individual, known as Hayden Boyd, then left on foot. Both later were eventually apprehended without more incident.
Willard is facing several accusations, including criminal fleeing and eluding law enforcement, conspiracy, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. A Justice Court judge set his bond at one million dollars.
In addition to the local charges, Willard is being held on an active felony warrant from the Panola County Sheriff’s Office as well as a probation violation hold from the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
The report did not state what charges Boyd faced.
The incident is still under investigation.
