A man died and another faces charges, including aggravated vehicular murder, following an incident involving five vehicles in Cleveland on Friday evening.
The collision occurred around 5:20 p.m. at West 150th Street and Lorain Avenue.
According to police, a 2017 GMC Acadia, which was thought to have been stolen shortly before the incident, was going west on Lorain Avenue at speeds substantially over the limit. As it approached the Warren Road and West 150th Street intersection, the car changed lanes, colliding with two other vehicles traveling west on Lorain Avenue.
According to authorities, the GMC then drove off the road and struck a fire hydrant. One of the two vehicles hit by the GMC was forced into a fourth vehicle, which entered the eastbound lane and struck a fifth vehicle.
Police suspect the GMC was taken from the 3700 block of West 130th Street just before the incident. According to authorities, the suspect stole the vehicle after it was left running in a driveway.
The suspect, a 22-year-old man, was hospitalized but faces accusations including aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault, and grand theft of a motor vehicle. Police say he will be hauled to jail once he has been medically cleared.
A 54-year-old man was brought to the hospital following the incident, but he died there. Three other people were hospitalized:
- A 23-year-old male with unspecified injuries
- A 22-year-old female with critical injuries
- A 21-year-old male with unspecified injuries
The crash is still being investigated by the accident investigation unit.
