NKY teen charged with shooting 13-year-old surrenders to police

An 18-year-old man charged with shooting a 13-year-old surrendered to authorities, Covington police reported Sunday.

Ryan Cupp, 18, from Independence, surrendered to police shortly after 6 p.m. following the issuance of an arrest warrant, Captain Justin Bradbury stated.

Jail records indicate that Cupp remains at the Kenton County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.

He faces a first-degree assault charge.

Cupp will likely appear in court for the first time in this case as early as Monday morning.

Shooting reported late Friday

Police received reports of the shooting at approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday at an apartment located on the 100 block of East 11th Street.

Officers discovered a 13-year-old with a gunshot wound upon their arrival, Captain Bradbury confirmed.

Medical personnel transported the teen to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition, Bradbury noted.

Police have not revealed a motive for the shooting but characterized this as an isolated incident that poses no danger to the public.
