Akron man sentenced to prison in Field House Lounge shooting

Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich revealed on Monday that a man had been sentenced for shooting multiple patrons at Akron’s Field House Lounge.

According to the prosecutor’s office, 22-year-old Akron resident Jakel Blackwell was sentenced to 16 to 18.5 years in prison for the shooting at Field House Lounge in 2025.

Last month, Blackwell pleaded no contest to the following offenses:

  • Three counts of felonious assault, a second degree felony with a three year firearm specification
  • One count of having weapons under disability, a third degree felony
  • One count of illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor permit premises, a third degree felony

In March 2025, Akron Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting at the Field House Lounge in Akron, where they discovered two injured guests.

Both victims were shot in the back and sent to a hospital for treatment.

The prosecutor’s office stated that Akron General Hospital in Stow reported another victim to police, who was a walk-in patient with a gunshot wound in the leg.

Officers found two.40 Caliber bullet casings on the scene.

Surveillance footage from the scene showed a person, later identified as Blackwell, engaging in a physical altercation with other guests before pulling out a revolver and firing twice.

The prosecutor’s office stated that the gunfire harmed three innocent people who were not involved in the incident.

The first bullet impacted the first victim in the knee, while the second shot struck the second victim in the back, passing through his upper chest and striking the third victim in the back.

The following day, officers got a tip from an anonymous voicemail that identified the culprit as Blackwell, who matched the description of the shooter provided by witness testimony and camera footage.

Jakel Blackwell’s actions were reckless and violent, causing harm to three innocent civilians that night. To this day these victims are still recovering from their injuries, one of whom is paralyzed from the waist down. My sympathies are with them as they continue to heal from Blackwell’s senseless actions.
