Billie Eilish recently spent some quality time with Amy Poehler — but she admitted she was actively holding back her Tourette Syndrome tics throughout the interaction.
On Tuesday’s episode of the comedian’s “Good Hang with Amy Poehler” podcast, Billie spoke candidly about her Tourette Syndrome and explained that she makes every effort to “suppress” her tics so they don’t become “distracting,” especially during interviews.
She told Amy Poehler she was actively suppressing them as they spoke, saying … “I’m doing everything I can to suppress every single tic that’s visible from the top of my head to about right here,” as she pointed to where the table cut her off.
At one point, Amy thanked Billie Eilish, explaining that their conversation helped her better understand her own “really bad” intrusive thoughts she would “never ever ever” share.
Billie Eilish noted that those come with an added challenge for people with Tourette Syndrome, saying … “Now imagine those intrusive thoughts, but your mouth has to say them out loud.”
She explained that this is how people with Tourette’s “pretty much spend our days” … adding that suppression is a “privilege” that not everyone has.
