Ohio Gov. DeWine addresses crowd at Meigs Bicentennial Celebration

POMEROY, Ohio – Prior to the Meigs County Bicentennial Parade kicking off in Pomeroy and going on to Middleport, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine addressed a crowd in front of Wolfe Mountain Entertainment.

Gov. DeWine is no stranger to Meigs County as he has visited multiple times along with his wife, Fran, for events such as the annual Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner. Gov. DeWine spoke of the beauty of Meigs County and Ohio River. He noted the bicentennial of the county was important to celebrate as well.

“There is no county more beautiful than Meigs County,” Gov. DeWine said.

DeWine also announced that his wife, Fran, would be visiting Meigs County again concerning a new program that will provide books for children ages 0-5. DeWine said there are currently about 1,400 children in Meigs County that fall within those ranges that could benefit from receiving books. He said such programs have been proved to prepare children for Kindergarten. The books would arrive every month in the child’s name.

Gov. DeWine said he had the opportunity during his visit to speak with Meigs County Engineer Gene Triplett. DeWine noted that there would be funding coming in June for road repairs in the county which would be in addition to money that will be coming from the gas tax increase.

He also thanked officials for the work they have done with the committee.

Gov. DeWine presented officials with a proclamation concerning Meigs County’s Bicentennial and he received various gifts from the committee in gratitude for attending the event.
