Pirate-themed party boat sinks, forcing passengers, including children, to jump into sea

Passengers on a pirate-themed party boat in the Mediterranean had to jump into the water after the vessel sank on Friday.

Tourists aboard a nearby boat in Akvaryum Bay, Türkiye, captured the dramatic scene on video. The footage shows the boat tilting heavily to one side before eventually going under.

According to a report by The U.S. Sun, the boat, Big Boss Diamond, owned by Yagna Tourism, departed from the resort town of Marmaris on Friday. Shortly after setting sail, the vessel began taking on water.

At the time of the incident, 148 people were on board, including 20 children. Passengers had to abandon the boat and remain in the surrounding waters while rescue teams responded.

Rescue crews safely transported all passengers and crew members to shore once they arrived. The Mugla Governorship reported that no injuries occurred.

Authorities have not determined the cause of the sinking. However, several passengers claimed they saw the boat’s engine catch fire before water started flooding the vessel. One passenger told The Sun she was “glad to be off [the boat] and alive.”

Yagna Tourism addressed the incident in an Instagram Stories post that has since expired:

“Dear guests and friends, thank you very much for asking and worrying about us. We are all safe and fine. Till fixed up Big Boss Diamond we will carry on our boat trips with Big Boss Yagna.”
