A former standout high school basketball player in Pittsburgh and current professional athlete was taken into custody for owing more than $100,000 in child support.
The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of DeAndre Kane, 36, on Saturday. According to law enforcement officials, Kane, who led Schenley High School to a City League basketball championship in 2008, has been a fugitive since 2023, when he failed to appear in Family Court for a hearing on overdue child support payments.
Kane has been a professional basketball player for a number of international teams since 2014. This week, sheriff’s office investigators and other law enforcement organizations heard that Kane would be returning to Pittsburgh from Iceland on Friday.
When Kane departed from his aircraft at Pittsburgh International Airport on Friday, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office and Allegheny County Police Department arrested him.
Kane was brought to Allegheny Jail to await a Family Court hearing.
