Teams search for missing swimmer after disappearing in water off Siesta Key Beach: SCSO

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a missing person off Siesta Key Beach after a man failed to return to shore.

What we know:

The SCSO received a call from a witness around 10:22 p.m. reporting that they watched a man enter the water and never come back out. Deputies describe the man as an adult Asian male in his early 20s, standing approximately 6 feet tall, with tattoos on his arms.

Deputies recovered several personal belongings on the beach that were identified as belonging to the missing man.

The SCSO reported that a search of the surrounding beach and waters — conducted with assistance from the Sarasota County Emergency Services (SCFD), U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater (USCG), Venice Police Department (VPD), and Sarasota Police Department (SPD) — came up empty Tuesday night. The search resumed Wednesday morning.

What we don’t know:

The man’s identity has not yet been determined. The investigation remains active, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
