Woman who told child she'd 'beat his a—' on school bus for bullying her stepson sentenced to jail

An Indiana woman who threatened children she believed were bullying her stepson is now facing the consequences of her actions.

Raven Barner, 26, pleaded guilty to two counts of battery on a person under the age of 14 stemming from an October 2025 incident that also allegedly involved her partner, 27-year-old Donquarious Ridley. As Law&Crime previously reported, Barner boarded a school bus on Oct. 31, 2025, at a stop near their Greenwood, Indiana, apartment complex and yelled at children on the bus.

The couple believed their grade-school-age son was being bullied on the bus.

According to a reports, police responded to an apartment complex in Greenwood on the morning of Oct. 31, 2025, after several witnesses — including children — saw Ridley and Barner board a school bus and begin yelling at students.

Camera footage recorded inside the bus captured the entire incident. Police said the video showed Barner and Ridley boarding the bus after their son had been picked up. The affidavit noted that the bus driver never gave them permission to board.

Barner started a verbal confrontation with two children and told one of them she would “beat his a—.” She then warned the same boy that she would have her stepson “beat his a—” as well. Video footage apparently showed Barner “encouraging” her stepson to “start an altercation.” The bus driver eventually stepped between Barner and one of the children, whom she struck. She struck a second child “inadvertently.”

Along with the two battery charges, Barner pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of resisting law enforcement. On May 21, a judge sentenced her to one year in jail followed by one year of active probation. She was also ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.

Ridley’s case remains pending. He faces two counts of battery on a person under 14 years old and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. His next court date is set for July 27.
